Self-Assessment Reflection
Traveling back to all the writing experiences done this semester, I came to the conclusion that in fact there is a lot of learning in this four months of the semester. Personally and academically I have grown and improve on my writing because with each homework and assignment I impulse to learn new things such as skills and strategies that will be key for my future writing. Skills that whether its communicating better with an audience to learning how to get feedback and that it’s not bad to get recommendations.
To reflect with the Semiweekly reflection was helpful because I was able to go back to the classes and report what I learned and how it has help me. They showed me how to assess my work critically and establish specific objectives for growth. I discovered how to identify patterns in my work and plan for upcoming assignments like making an outline. I learned how to use reflection as a growth tool during this process, and I’ll use it going forward in my academic writing and likewise in my personal.
The vignette assignment gave me the opportunity to let my voice and my experiences to be heard. I learned how to engage readers by delivering relatable moments from my personal experiences. I became proficient at using vivid narrative as a technique to enhance the authenticity and engagement of my work. This demonstrated to me that writing is about conveying something genuine, not just about syntax and structure. It was fun to include something about my life in all this writing, it makes it more personal than just being something for school.
The Learning Analysis Outline help me to be more organize. It showed me that it’s important to have things clear and consisted because it will help you to add all the pieces nicely when writing a final paper. Now, every time I have an essay my first thing is to create a plan in order to lose myself at the end when I am writing my essay.
Then the first draft of the Learning Analysis was teach me that you can’t always have the best version at the first try. With that comes the Peer Review, we had the chance to shared our draft to our peers and received feedback and improve our writing. It might not be easy to critique ourself, but it does help to revise and realize that we can expand and add more details to something unclear. Peer Review also helped because you read others writing and you could noticed different mistakes or gain ideas that you could use for your paper. With all the final feedback, I started to apply the comments given to me and finish my essay.
The annotated bibliography taught me how to use citation correctly and how to make the citations by myself. I had to follow the Chicago Style Manual in order to have a correct citation. I also learned how to gain journals and documents from the CCNY database to gain evidence and information about Levittown.
The research is undoubtedly one of the most difficult aspects of this entire process. It took a lot of work to locate trustworthy sources and then arrange them, but the annotated bibliography assignment made it easier for me. I discovered how to summarize my document and how to used for my arguments with evidence-based writing. I also learned how to maintain organization and focus when working on complicated subjects by breaking my study into smaller chunks.
The final research paper was easier with the help of the bibliography and an outline that I made to keep myself organize and made sure to include all the necessary information. The skills I used was critical thinking because I had to analyze the kind of information I was going to used without loosing myself about my lens about community and it’s impact.
Finally, the MMT was a project that showed me the skill of summarizing. To summarized a research paper in order to make an audience more engage to read the information about Levittown. My main point was to engage with tourist and make them want to visit Levittown and to learn the history of this place. I had to show my creativity in order to engage a big audience. I enjoy presenting this to my peers and them asking questions, it seem that the site I was talking about was interesting.
Overall, I leaned new things with all of this assignment that I take with me for the future. I am exited to continue writing and to learn more over time.
